This is an upbeat version of "Jolly Old St. Nicholas" done in the style of Neal Hefti's "Cute" written for the
Count Basie Band in the 1950s. Trumpet 1 and tuba get solos (both written out) -- but it is the ensemble
that will truly have a chance to shine on this one. Super tight phrasing and dynamics will showcase just
how connected your quintet can play (and it is not rangy -- so it will be easy to pull off anywhere in your
program).
