This original Zack Smith piece was commissioned in 2021 by John Monroe who has graciously allowed us to
put it up for sale to the general brass public. Inspired by triangles and groups of threes, the piece
has five movements each titled with a spectacularly bad math pun. "A Cute Sign" is a Spanish waltz
that is classical in nature with lots of dynamic contrast. The second movement, "Obviously Obtuse" is
sort of the Grand Guignol of the collection moving between 3/4 and 5/4 time and featuring the trombone.
"I Saw Celeste" is a jazz waltz featuring the French horn and some modern jazz harmonies. Trumpet 1 is
featured on flugelhorn in the fourth movement "180 Degrees of Separation", a slow tone poem with a jazz
noir mood and an interesting tuba/trombone duet towards the end. The final movement, "Equilateral
Damage", is a fiery Malaguena-style paso doble with a lot of heat for the trumpets, trombone and tuba.
One of Zack's most exciting works to date!
