This excellent piccolo trumpet feature from part 3 of Handel's Messiah was originally a bass
vocal solo. The trumpet part is the same as the original and the bass solo is written
exactly as the original in the trombone part with the exception of optionally having some bars
to play at the beginning and at the end when the bass solo originally was resting. In
the very unusual coincidence that your trombone player is an accomplished operatic bass singer,
by all means let him sing it!
Trumpet 1 comes with a C part and an A piccolo part.
An abridged version can be made by cutting from bar 84 to bar 141, but have the trombone keep
his note in bar 85.
Listen to a synthesized sound clip.
Check out a church service prelude performance of the abridged
version by The Quintessential Brass Repertoire.
