This is an original composition written on commission for the Midway Brass Quintet. The group wanted something
jazzy which would give their talented jazz trumpeter a chance to do some improvising, while also making sure everyone
was featured here and there throughout the piece. The first movement is built over a 1970's-style funk groove.
There is room for trumpet 2 to improvise -- though a written solo is provided. There are two versions of the tuba
part -- the original and the amped up version for someone who needs a challenge. The second movement is a very
jazzy ballad featuring the horn, trumpet and the trombone. Works as a stand alone piece as well. The third
movement is a fast swing with some Harmon mute trumpet blowing over the top, and then a trumpet solo which can be
improvised (or played as written). Tuba takes a solo towards the end as well -- and again, there is an amped up
tuba part if you need a challenge.
