We have found over the years there is a need for a more traditional (less raucous and jazzy) version
of "When the Saints" in our repertoire. This version of the funeral standard starts with a slow
telling of the verse, then a rather subdued chorus. The second time through, the verse is a little
peppier as is the chorus. The third time through the verse is even faster, and the last chorus
goes up a whole step and is more "New Orleansy". Range is not an issue in this chart (first
trumpet goes to a written A) and it is easy enough that it shouldn't require much rehearsal. Perfect
for a church funeral or a conservative church service that wants something a little peppy as people leave
(but not TOO PEPPY!).
