Chris Kase's new arrangement of the Gershwin classic "Summertime" encompasses various moods and styles. The
exposition of the familiar theme is a ballad in chorale texture, quickly changing to medium swing and rounded out
by a shout chorus and return to the melody in an energetic jazz waltz following the improvised solo section.
Like other Kase arrangements in this series, all three-voice solo backgrounds and chord symbols are found in all
four trumpet parts, making this a very flexible chart: any player can solo and the complete background is
playable by the remaining three players. A great introduction to a variation on minor blues and group phrasing
for intermediate/advanced students, or for performance by pro players.
